02/25/2024: The News

Hello!

Hope you are doing well!

I have a bit of news to share from a recent medical diagnosis. It looks like I have a denser brain than most - I guess that explains some things about my personality :). On a serious note, the technical term for what I have is Parasagittal Meningioma- a (likely benign) tumor growing in my brain.

I have some diagnostic tests coming up, likely in March, to understand the extent of vein damage, if any, and whether radiation is needed post surgery. The surgery itself will be scheduled for sometime in April and they expect me to fully recover in about 6 weeks. I am supposed to be asymptomatic, as it is a very slow growing tumor, likely in the making for over a decade. It is a fortuitous discovery at my age, the ER doctors did me a great service by ordering CT/MRI as opposed to brushing my symptoms aside as a migraine, like they were suspecting. I have some symptoms (headache, nausea, dizziness) which the doctor thinks are unrelated to the tumor and likely to be caused by my infected sinuses. I am on antibiotics for that and an ENT CT scan is scheduled to confirm this. Bhaskar is holding down the fort and the girls are doing their bit to keep things quiet around my headaches. I think it all sounds more serious than it needs to be. I am expected to fully recover from it post surgery/radiation.

However, I would be lying if I didn't say it all has been a little overwhelming to me. It made me pause, think, and reflect. I did not share this news with my parents, sister, or extended family yet, as I don't want to worry them unnecessarily. I might involve them after the surgery timeline and recovery path are fully established, or not even then, if everything goes smoothly, which I am hoping for.

I am just reaching out to those who crossed my path and made an indelible mark. Your friendship, regardless of how old, how long, or how strong, means something to me, and I appreciate your presence in my life. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for you, and I wholeheartedly wish you and yours the very best.

Cheers!

Jyothy
